Test Your Browser Settings System Announcements COVID-19 Considerations (Friday, January 8, 2021) In order to help keep our ATU community safe, healthy, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, students must follow several steps: Masks must be worn by all students in public spaces, including classrooms and laboratories. Any student showing up for class without a mask will be given the opportunity to retrieve one. Entry into classrooms and laboratories without a mask will be prohibited. All students are required to participate in a daily health self-screen. For students commuting to campus, please complete before coming to campus. For residential students, please complete each day before leaving your residence hall. All students must maintain at least 6 feet of distance from every person present in all instructional spaces used in this course (classrooms, laboratories, etc.). Any student who tests positive for COVID-19 is asked to self-report to the ATU Health and Wellness Center by calling (479) 968-0329 or sending an e-mail to hwc@atu.edu . Doing so will allow the university to communicate directly with others who might have been exposed to the virus and take any appropriate cleaning and sanitizing measures. Students are expected to abide by the above steps in accordance with the Student Handbook section on Classroom Behavior. The excerpt below is from the 2019-2020 Student Handbook: 3. Classroom Behavior Each member of the Arkansas Tech University community is obliged to conduct her/himself in a non-disruptive manner in the classroom. If a student is being disruptive, the instructor will address the situation, discussing behavioral expectations moving forward, and emphasize possible consequences for failing to comply. If the disruptive behavior persists, the student may be suspended on an interim basis from the class. Instructors may report excessive and/or repeated disruptive behavior through the Procedures for Addressing Violations of Academic Integrity and Classroom Behavior. This process includes an appeals process students may use to challenge perceived violations or excessive penalties. Students who exhibit disruptive behavior may also be referred to the Department of Student Conduct (see Article III, Section C of the Arkansas Tech University Student Handbook). If a classroom incident constitutes an emergency (e.g., any immediate threat to life and/or property) and requires an immediate response from police, fire or emergency medical services, please call 911. Monthly Updates (Friday, June 7, 2019) As a part of the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform our system now runs on, and it's Continuous Delivery method for updates, Blackboard pushes out monthly releases of the LMS to the servers running our instance of the product (bblearn.atu.edu). Each release contains new features or feature enhancements, as well as maintenance items. These updates are expected to be pushed out by them in the early evening hours. While no one anticipates any problems during these times, please be aware that there is always a possibility for unexpected issues. AWS Established Maintenance Window (Friday, June 7, 2019) Blackboard utilizes Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host their Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) clients on the cloud. As one of these Blackboard SaaS clients, we are subject to AWS's maintenance schedules and they have recently announced an established maintenance window that occurs weekly on Tuesday mornings at 3:00 - 3:30 AM CST. They say this about the maintenance window... "The standard maintenance window is a maximum of 30 minutes. Work may or may not happen during this window. Typically work performed during this window takes less than 30 minutes (while our highly available components failover across avail zones). During the maintenance window, AWS performs work on clusters and instances in batches and our processes failover active clusters and instance to a different availability zone. For example, RDS and or Infrastructure changes may occur and take 30 seconds to complete, and batch one starts at minute one and batch two starts at minute two. For the security and stability of your environment, maintenance can cause instances to be briefly unavailable. " Please be aware of this maintenance window and schedule your activities on BbLearn accordingly. Campus Support Center Optimizes Service Times and Automates for Efficiencies (Monday, March 11, 2019) In order to facilitate more efficient support during peak times, the Campus Support Center will be transitioning to automated support during the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. beginning on March 25th, 2019. During the hours of 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., Blackboard exams resets will not be done. We will handle those requests as quickly as possible the next morning.
